Machine Overview

This machine is a 5-axis, CNC controlled, single head, Vertical Machining Center, with a 50-HP spindle motor.  The tool chain is capable of storing up to 60 tools and the spindle unit (SU) transporter is capable of storing up to 5 spindle units.

The approximate work envelope is 2200 mm x 3000 mm x 5000 mm (H x W x L) using pallets with the following capacities:
 
Pallet width: 2500 mm / 98.4 in
Pallet length: 4000 mm / 157.5 in
Width between column way covers: 3000 mm / 118.1 in
Height from pallet top to ram face (ram retracted): 2750 mm / 108.3 in

Table (Pallet Receiver) Description
The table is mounted on top of the bed with a hydrostatic way system.
 
Spindle Capacity
The 37KW, 50HP, 6000 rpm spindle motor will deliver up to 50HP using 2 gear ranges as described below:
 
High (M33) Second Gear: 43-4000 rpm (760 BSpd)
Low (M32) First Gear: 10-937 rpm (180 BSpd)
 
Spindle Units 
A1 = 1:1 Straight 50HP @ 180 rpm
A2 = 1:1 Right Angle 50HP @ 180 rpm
 
Tool Changer
Used to move tools between the spindle unit and the tool chain. The Tool Changer consists of a 100 pocket (#50 taper), Bertsche tool chain with a tool changer capable of changing tools in straight and right angle spindle units (SU). System capabilities are:
 
  • Max Weight:  35 kg (77 lb)
  • Max Diameter:  315 mm (12.4 in)
  • Max Length:  450 mm (17 in)
 
External Scales
The Closed Loop feedback of the linear and rotary mechanisms is achieved using Heidenhain external scales. Transfer errors from the mechanics are detected by the linear and rotary encoders and corrected by the CNC resulting in a very accurate machine.
 
Control System
The machine is currently controlled by a Fanuc 15MB CNC. However, we would recommend it be retrofitted with either a Fanuc 30i, 31i, 32i or Siemens 840D CNC before the machine is installed. The Siemens/Fanuc platforms provide a single control architecture for discrete I/O, drives, motion and process control systems. Although these are our controls of choice, we do have experience in a wide variety of CNC systems. If this or another control system is desired, we can quote it upon request. That way, the machine can be customized to your requirements.
 
Mechanical Condition
The machine has been very well maintained and was in production until January 2019 when it was disassembled and shipped back to us.
